12th October 2013

Portsmouth Northsea B kicked off their Arena league campaign by clinching victory in the final event of a stunning Division two south gala in front of a packed & noisy crowd at the Mountbatten Centre, Portsmouth on Saturday 12th October.

For the first time since the Mountbatten centre opened it’s 50 Metre pool the roof of the pool was well and truly raised by the electric atmosphere of its racing teams and spectators!
As a brand new team to the league and for many PN swimmers their first time selection into the meet, the team did what it did best….raced hard But it wasn’t plain sailing for the hosts though as despite winning 5 of the opening 10 races Northsea found themselves trailing Chalfont Otters by one point.

However, an impressive run of victories including wins from Ellie Fletcher & Joe Hendry in backstroke, comprehensive wins from Jack Keeler & Will Pointon in Fly and backstroke victory from James Corrigan gave Northsea a one point lead at the half way stage.

The lead continued to change hands between Northsea & Chalfont Otters with Windsor always just behind in 3rd place.

With just 2 events remaining Chalfont had a narrow lead over Northsea and it would all come down to the Open 6 x 50m Freestyle relays. The sound was deafening and the atmosphere electric as both teams and spectators were on the feet screaming as Portsmouth Northsea took 2nd place behind Windsor in both the mens and womens races giving them the points they needed to turn the lead around and clinch overall victory on the night by just one point!
